Going Beyond: Aligning Values & Mission to Build Volunteer Advocates
Guest Speaker: Patty Gentry, Director of Volunteer Engagement and Mobilization at the March of Dimes
Mission — it’s influential, transformative, and the heart of every organization. But what if we went beyond mission? To help us answer this, we’re hosting March of Dimes’ Director of Volunteer Engagement & Mobilization, Patty Gentry. We’ll sit down and discuss how aligning an organization’s mission with the values held by volunteers can build volunteer advocates and further the influence of an organization to the greater community and beyond.
Together, we’ll explore:
Where to start with aligning volunteer values with your organization’s mission
Patty Gentry is a nonprofit leader with over 16 years of experience working with youth, volunteers, donors, and key stakeholders through events, activations and digital campaigns. She is also a Positive Psychology Practitioner having received her certificate in Applied Positive Psychology through The Flourishing Center. This allows for more integration of emotional intelligence, personal wellness and resiliency into engagement programs and in working with others to make an impact.
She joined March of Dimes in 2019 as the Director of Volunteer Engagement and Mobilization where she works to engage national service partners, Volunteer Leaders and volunteers to advance the fight for the health of all moms and babies. The combined passion in working with volunteers and positive psychology, brings about a sweet spot of specializing in values-based volunteerism that empowers organizations and individuals to maximize performance and cultivate positive work environments.]
Prior to that she joined No Kid Hungry in 2008 working to end childhood hunger in America in various roles in communications, programs, fundraising and volunteer engagement. Originally from Sims, Indiana, Patty attended Manchester College, and joined No Kid Hungry after working with several youth and hunger & homelessness-focused nonprofits in Indiana and Washington, D.C. Needless to say, she has worn many hats over the years within the nonprofit sector.
