Meet this episode's expert guest: Gethyn Williams

Founder of GW Consulting

Gethyn Williams is an independent consultant specialising in volunteering strategy, engagement and infrastructure. With more than 25 years' experience across the UK nonprofit sector, he has held leadership roles at national charity Volunteering Matters, worked within the UK Government's Covid-19 Volunteering Strategy team, helped to launch England's Vision for Volunteering and supported organisations maximise the opportunities created by The Big Help Out.

Today, Gethyn works with charities, healthcare systems and public sector partners to design more effective approaches to volunteer engagement, with a particular focus on shared infrastructure and the systems underpinning volunteering, digital transformation and volunteer mobility. His recent work developing Volunteer Passport models explores how shared systems and trusted digital credentials can reduce barriers to volunteering, ease onboarding and enable people to contribute more easily across organisations and communities.

A regular international speaker and facilitator, Gethyn believes the future of volunteering lies in investing less time in administration and more in people. His work explores how better systems can create more space for coaching, mentorship, leadership development and building stronger volunteer cultures. He works with organisations and place-based partnerships interested in rethinking how volunteering can strengthen both communities and the public services that depend upon them.
